Partner Samuel Rippon has been appointed as a Deputy District Judge by the Lord Chief Justice.

The role involves a wide jurisdiction which is the same as that of a full-time district judge, but requires sitting in the county courts and district registries of the High Court for up to 30 days a year.

Managing Partner David Salisbury said, “This is an impressive achievement which follows a rigorous application and selection process, and the firm is very proud of Sam. It’s testament to his experience and aptitude that he secured such a competitive role.”

Deputy district judges are appointed by the Lord Chief Justice after a fair and open competition administered by the Judicial Appointments Commission. Candidates must demonstrate five competencies; exercising judgement, possessing and building knowledge, assimilating and clarifying information, working and communicating with others, and managing work efficiently.

Of his appointment, Partner Samuel Rippon said, “This is a position that comes with significant responsibility and complexity, but the challenge and variety is what attracted me to apply. I am very much looking forward to this exciting new stage of my career.”
